Rule #13 - Be a risk taker.

With great risk comes great reward. Don’t miss out on a great opportunity just because your returns aren’t guaranteed. Nothing in life is guaranteed. Learn how to manage the risks you take and hedge against any losses you might suffer. (Remember: Rule #17 - Always come prepared.)

America wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for some fed up pilgrims that took a chance at a land unknown. Man would have never landed on the Moon if we were afraid to leave the ground. Sometimes you need to put everything on the line to win the modern game.  One of the G.O.A.T’s said it best: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

Rule #33 - Never lie, steal, cheat or drink.

Sara: What should we toast to?
Hitch: Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink. But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away.

Rule #19 - If you already missed the shortcut, move on.

Mario Kart 64: Rainbow Road

by ~Joker08

Let’s face it: everybody wants to take a shortcut once in awhile. Some people try and get lucky, and some people know the game well enough to take shortcuts skillfully when the opportunity arises. I’m not here to say cutting corners is a good or bad thing; I’m just saying if you mess up once trying to skip half the course, don’t be an idiot and try it again thinking you can out-fox the system the second time around. It’s bad karma, and before you know it, you’ll be a lap behind. If the shortcut didn’t work out, fine. Move on. Now you’re gonna have to work twice as hard to catch up to the pack, and thrice to cross the finish line in first. And don’t you dare complain. It was your fault in the first place. Consider it a lesson learned in ethic.

Rule #46 - Never rat on your friends, and always keep your mouth shut.

Ooh you broke your cherry!

Jimmy Conway: Here’s your graduation present.
Henry Hill: But what for? I got pinched.
Jimmy Conway: Everybody gets pinched, but you did it right. You told ‘em nothing and they got nothing.
Henry Hill: I thought you were mad.
Jimmy Conway: Mad? I’m not mad at ya, I’m proud of ya. You took your first pinch like a man, and you learned the two greatest things in life.
Henry Hill: What?
Jimmy Conway: Look at me. Never rat on your friends, and always keep your mouth shut.

Rule #2 - To reveal truth, the game must be played through constant deception.

“A good magician never reveals his secrets.”

This is one of the most fundamental rules of the game. Without this rule, no game would exist. Every game in existence is played with deceitful intent by one player or another to reveal little truths throughout and at the conclusion of the game.

What makes us want to play and keep playing is an eternal curiosity for the unknown, and the feeling that some part of the game still remains a mystery: that there are still unopened treasures hidden somewhere in the sand, cities yet to be conquered, areas still uncharted and stones left unturned. This is the nature of every game - no one would play baseball if they knew every pitch the pitcher was going to throw, no one would watch movies if they already knew the plots, and there is no reward in playing if one already knows they are going to win.

We are constantly being deceived; a veil is being pulled over our eyes by players and the game alike, all in hopes of hiding the truth, or getting to it first. Am I a better competitor than him? Will I be rich and famous? Does he come back for her in the end? As much as you would hate to hear it, the truth cannot set you free without first being hidden from plain view.

The truth, on it’s own, is a four-wall prison with no exit doors and no chance of parole. It is a classroom with four surrounding blackboards and no chalk. It’s a chair in a world where people don’t know what it means to sit. Amazingly, the beauty of the game’s design is that through deception, our minds are allowed to run free in a boundless plain, to swim in an ocean of boundless depth. It’s the unknown that allows us to have imagination: the ability to create our own deceptions in search for the greater truth. And it is up until the truth is revealed that we are allowed to fantasize about whatever we please. At the end of it all, we are left either wanting more, wanting none at all, or even worse: indifferent.

To create a successful show, one mustn’t break the spell even after the curtains have closed. This is why a good magician, and player of the game, never reveals his secrets. He never allows the spell he has placed on the audience to be broken by masking the truth, which allows for the greatest deception: the one that your opponent conjures on their own. Once they have deluded themselves, your finale will reveal the only truth that matters: that you have won.

Rule #38 - Invest in a watch.

This isn’t for keeping time, folks. You can do that with your phone. It’s about keeping classy. It’s the details that make you stand out from the rest - the proper watch is an essential. Invest in a nice watch, take care of it and it’ll last you a lifetime.

Rule #10 - Just because you do not care does not mean you can be careless.

Don Corleone: I hope you don’t mind the way I keep going over this Barzini business.
Michael: No, not at all.
Don Corleone: It’s an old habit. I spent my whole life trying not to be careless. Women and children can afford to be careless, but not men.
